This week, on July 5th, the news of Coco Li Wen's suicide due to depression shocked us who were used to her existence. An era is desolate, but her works will never be forgotten. Let's listen to a classic and niche song. I didn't realize it before, but now looking back, the songs we used to listen to were really good.
It will be sunny one day#
I have found that a person's emotions and feelings about the world are similar to the weather. There are some obvious things about the weather: it is real. It does not change according to your will. If the sky is dark and it is raining, it is really dark and wet, and you cannot change it. It may be cloudy and rainy for two weeks in a row.
But, there will be a sunny day.
Just as a person must accept the weather, sometimes a person must accept their own feelings about life. "Today is a bad day" is a very realistic approach. This is all for the sake of finding a mental umbrella.
"Hey, it's raining inside, it's not my fault, I can't do anything about it, I can only sit and wait. But tomorrow the sun is likely to come out, and when it does, I will enjoy it."
Stephen Fry's letter to a lady experiencing a bout of depression reminded me of a similar viewpoint I saw immediately here. Depression is like a broken bone, both are objective and difficult to recover from immediately. You must stop and not move at least for safety, and do not blame yourself. Just like a broken bone, do not expect it to heal immediately. It takes time to recover from an illness, but one thing is certain, when you are healed, you will be able to stand up and run fearlessly just like before.
Young People's Physical Examination Guide 01: What to Check in the Examination#
All these changes are not achieved overnight, so young people tend to be healthier than older people. Although the process of atherosclerosis in blood vessels begins at birth, and cervical spondylosis begins silently at the age of 10, various diseases may gradually manifest symptoms only in middle and old age. It is also because of the development of diseases that the previous generation often has a wrong idea - we have never heard of physical examinations before, but we have lived well for more than half of our lives, right?
A very detailed guide on why young people should have physical examinations, what to check in the examinations, the content indicators and cost comparisons of various items, as well as precautions before and after the examinations, etc. The author even thoughtfully shared his suggestions on what should be included in a family medicine cabinet, which is very practical. I am a little surprised by the amount of work the author put into this article, and it reminds me that I should make an appointment while the company is offering physical examinations.
Enhancing the Happiness of Living Alone: Doing Housework Even When You're Alone#
The advantage of doing housework alone is that there is no one to "evaluate" the results of your labor. Any housework only needs to meet the standards that "I" can accept, which means "doing it well enough". When another person is involved, housework as a "labor" may encounter various judgments: the smell of the new detergent is unpleasant; why do you eat potatoes every day; the floor is dirty today. Saying it out loud seems to disrespect the other person's labor, but not saying it out loud will deepen the resentment in your heart. Sometimes when you want someone to share the housework, you may have this concern: Is it really easier with more people helping?
I am someone who tends to prioritize daily chores and find it difficult to take care of all aspects of tidying up the room and doing housework. So this article opened up my imagination to some extent, and maybe if I want to, I can start in this way in the future. It's okay to imitate and learn, after all, everyone's habits can still change.
Steve's Talk - Women's Self-Defense Tutorial#
I have been listening to Steve's podcast for a long time, but I didn't expect that there would be a video tutorial on women's self-defense on Bilibili. Maybe it's because he has been learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he invited a black belt coach named James to demonstrate how women can escape when facing danger. It's very practical!
Xu Yun's Wandering China - 0704#
One user's comment in the comments section said what I wanted to say after watching this video: "The last clip, which is less than a minute long, is the best part of Xu Yun so far in my personal opinion. With dreamlike background music playing, when the cat walks towards the camera, the dairy farmer, the car, the bungalow, the little crow, the child, the herd of horses, the power pole, the football field, the blue sky, the mountains, everything seems real but also unreal. I never thought I would be so shocked by something on the internet. For someone like me who may only be able to live in a concrete jungle of a third-tier city for the rest of my life, unable to escape, these few seconds have healed me so much."
I found that Xu Yun is getting better and better at making videos. After shooting the daily bumps (especially this episode where he forgot to turn on the stabilization, making it even bumpier...), he adds a piece of light music as background music, and then I realize that the scenery of the journey is still so beautiful.
Threads#
This week's hot product is undoubtedly Threads, the new work from Zuckerberg's Meta company. It is a social app that competes with Musk's Twitter. Account registration can be done using Instagram, which has over 2 billion monthly active users. It has already surpassed 12 million registrations in less than half a day and has skyrocketed to the top of the app store rankings in over 65 countries. It's quite terrifying. From my personal experience, the functionality is not yet fully open, there are no tags, and you can't search for text. You can only see a messy timeline of posts from both followed and unfollowed accounts. I'm curious how long this level of activity will last and what future updates will bring.
Snapdrop - Cross-Platform File Transfer#
A must-have for multi-platform devices. I have Android phones, a Windows computer, an iPhone, an iPad, a MacBook, and other devices at home. File transfer between Apple devices is relatively easy, but cross-platform transfer can be more troublesome. In the past, I would simply upload and copy a link to Baidu Cloud or Niu Kuai Chuan for Apple-to-Apple file transfer. Now it's much more convenient, just open the website and transfer files directly through the network.
"Memo"#
I discovered a very useful tool that can be used to download videos with just one click and convert podcasts to text. However, it is still in beta testing. You can apply for beta testing in advance by adding WeChat: memoHQ. I applied to try out audio-to-text conversion, and it was very convenient. The interface design is also very good. I look forward to the official release of the product.
Stable Diffusion - New Skin Lobe Theme#
I haven't been paying attention to the progress of Stable Diffusion for a while, but I didn't expect that there would be a high-end theme optimization. This skin was designed by an engineer from Ant Design, and the installation process is also very simple.
1) Dream Diary#
I had a dream at 3 am on Wednesday and recorded it: "In a room, like my parents' living room now, there were my parents and K teacher, four people in total. My parents were sitting on the sofa, and she was on the side. There was a large old Muji floor fan in the room, a wide floor fan with two heads side by side, but it could only blow on one side and couldn't reach K teacher. So I wanted to change the angle of the fan to make all three people feel the breeze. But when I was moving it, I was too stupid and lifted the fan up, and I had to support it with my body to keep it balanced. I couldn't put it on the ground from my body. I heard laughter, and my parents were laughing at me, but they immediately realized and started to care about me. Maybe they realized that I did something very stupid and laughed at me; maybe they sensed my sensitivity; maybe I didn't intentionally do something so stupid, and I felt wronged." In that instant, tears streamed down my face, and big tears wetted my eye mask. The feeling of being choked made it difficult for me to breathe through my nose. I realized that I woke up crying from a dream. During the day, I shared this with close friends, and they all expressed concern, which touched me a little. They said I am a kind and innocent person at heart, and the AI dream interpretation explained the dream to some extent, which makes sense.
2) Performance Review#
The focus of my work this week was on the mid-year performance review. The reason was that it was my first performance review since joining this company and my first mid-year review since starting work. It was inevitable that I would feel a bit nervous. However, after the schedule was changed to a one-on-one meeting with the senior leader, my leader reassured me that the format had changed, so there was no need to be too anxious. And it turned out to be true. The performance review on Friday went smoothly, and after the one-on-one meeting, the senior leader even informed me that I was nominated for the team progress award at the mid-year annual meeting and asked me to say a few words when receiving the award on Monday. Awkwardness and nervousness started again... But I still enjoyed the good mood on Friday, which began with the end of the performance review.
That's all. Thank you for reading. If you like it, feel free to subscribe or recommend it to other friends so that more people can see it. You can also find me in these places to exchange thoughts on productivity, work, and life:
